Clermont, Fla. – The Catholic University of America softball team was handed two close losses on Wednesday, one coming on a walkoff. The Cardinals fell to Concordia (Ill.), 6-3, and Bridgewater State, 7-6.
Concordia hit the walkoff homerun in the bottom of the eighth while Catholic rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh against Bridgewater, but came up just short.
Sophomore Sabrina Scott was the Catholic offense in the first game as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. She hit her dinger in the sixth and tied the game on an RBI single in the seventh.
Junior Kelly Lynch went all 7.2 innings in the circle and struck out nine to just two walks, but Concordia was able to get to her in extras to end it.
Forgen and Horten each had two hits in the day's second game while Forgen, Scott and freshman Makayla Czan each had two-RBI contest.
Bridgewater led 5-1 after the fourth and added two more in the top of the seventh to lead 7-1.
Catholic came back strong in the bottom of the frame but its rally stalled.
