Clermont, Fla. – The Catholic University of America softball team competed in its fourth day of competition at the annual PFX Spring Games but suffered two tough defeats against Wartburg, 5-3, and against Alvernia, 3-2.
In both games, Catholic held late leads but saw their opponent get hot late for the comeback win.
The Cardinals led 3-1 after the top of the sixth against Wartburg, but a four-run bottom of the frame put Catholic in a hole it could not get out of.
Versus Alvernia, the Cards led, 2-1, after four full innings, but runs in the fifth and seventh put Catholic down one in the final frame as they could not come back.
Sophomore Sabrina Scott tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts to only one walk against Wartburg but surrendered five runs.
Only four Cardinals had hits against Alvernia, with DeBlasie once again leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance and one of Catholic's two RBI.
Junior Kelly Lynch was strong in the circle again with a complete game and four strikeouts and only one earned run.
Catholic has another day off tomorrow before copping its Spring Break trip on Saturday, March 10 against RPI and Roger Williams at 9 and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
