WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Catholic University's head softball coach Bruce McConkey announced his team's 2019 schedule on Thursday.
The Cardinals are slated with a challenging schedule right from the start with a home opener against the 2018 MAC Commonwealth Champions, Messiah College on Saturday, March 2. This will be the first time since 2004 that these two teams meet on the diamond.
Catholic will then head to Clermont, Fla. to compete in The Spring Games, which also brings great competition for the Cardinals. They play 10 games during their time in the south, starting on Saturday, March 9 against Bates College and Wheaton College of Massachusets. Catholic will then turn around on Sunday, March 10 and play Bridgewater State and Newbury College. After a day off, the Cardinals will face Illinois Wesleyan, the 2018 National Runner-Up, and Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 12. The Cards will wrap up the week with games against, Washington & Jefferson (3/13), Husson (3/13), Mt. St. Vincent (3/14), and Finlandia (3/14).
Upon returning home, Catholic will jump right into Landmark Conference play with a home doubleheader against the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 16. They will finish up the weekend with games on Sunday, March 17 against Cabrini College. After a 16 game stretch in just two weeks, the Cards will settle into routine play with a Saturday doubleheader at Susquehanna University on March 23 before returning home against Washington College on Wednesday. Catholic will finish the month on the road against the Royals of Scranton (3/30).
The Cardinals will begin April with home doubleheaders against Hood College (4/3) and Juniata College (4/6). They will then travel to Immaculata on Sunday, April 7. Catholic is set to host Salisbury University (4/9) and Stevenson University (4/11) before a stint of road games that is highlighted by a trip to Moravian College, the returning Landmark Conference Champions, on Saturday, April 13. The Cards will play their final regular season game of the year at home against Drew University on Saturday, April 27.
"We are excited to compete with a challenging schedule this year," said head coach Bruce McConkey. "This team has put a lot of work in and we are thrilled to combine our talented returners with our outstanding newcomers this season."
