Catholic 16-10, Gallaudet 1-2 April 5, 2002

Jessica Payne WASHINGTON - Catholic swept a conference twinbill from Gallaudet as the Cardinals took the first game, 16-1, and the nightcap, 10-2. Sophomore Kate Moshier was the winning pitcher in both games, improving her record to 5-5 on the year.

The first game saw junior Kristin Werdann go 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Werdann had an RBI single and teammate Jessica Payne (at left) hit a two-run home run to left, her fifth on the season, to help CUA put three runs across in the first. Payne also finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Freshman Karyn Cata was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three knocked in.

Catholic scored in every inning before the game was called in the sixth.

The Bison's Jill Bianco suffered the loss. Teammate Courtney Westerberg was 2-for-2 with a RBI single in the second.

Game 2 had Catholic keep a 2-1 lead for three innings until a five-run fifth broke the game open. Cata highlighted the fifth with a two-run base hit as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the game. Junior Jessica Cisper was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while freshman Kristen Cimino was a 3-for-3 with a run scored.

The Cardinals play the Bison again tomorrow in the first game of the Bison Tournament at Gallaudet at 10 a.m. CUA then takes on Ferrum at noon.
