Landmark Conference honors McMakin as Pitcher of the Week

WASHINGTON – On the heels of throwing a no-hitter on Sunday, freshman Erin McMakin has been named this week's Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday.  McMakin went 2-0 in the circle last week, including the no-hitter on April 10, and hit .417 at the plate in four games.

McMakin had quite the week for the Cardinals, culminating with her no-hitter performance vs. Hood on Sunday, April 10.  The freshman hurler went seven innings, struck out four batters and walked just one in CUA's 5-0 win over the Blazers.

That performance came one day after McMakin earned a win over Drew after throwing seven innings, striking out six and allowing just a pair of runs in the Cardinals' 6-2 victory vs. the Rangers.

In addition to her outstanding pitching, McMakin did a great job in the batter's box, with five hits in 12 at bats, good for a .417 batting average.  The Olney, Maryland native also drove in four runs and scored once.

McMakin went 1 for 3 in each of CUA's first three games of the weekend and then delivered a 2 for 3 performance in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader vs. Hood.

For the season McMkain is 7-3 in the circle with an ERA of 2.02 and 40 strikeouts in 59 innings of work.  She is also batting .333 with 26 hits and 24 runs batted in.

McMakin and the Cardinals will be back in action this Friday, April 15 when they head to Pennsylvani to take on Gwynedd-Mercy in a doubleheader.  Game one gets underway beginning at 3 p.m.

The very next day CUA heads to Scranton, Pa. to take on the Royals in a Landmark Conference doubleheader.  Start time of game one is set for 1 p.m.
