Cardinals place fourth at championship; Wisler wins 100 free

SCRANTON, Pa. – CUA wrapped up competition at the 2012 Landmark Conference championship on Sunday, which took place on the campus of Marywood University.  The Cardinals finished fourth on the men's and women's side, with Julia Wisler capturing the 100 freestyle championship.

Wisler's time of 53.90 seconds in the 100 freestyle earned her a first place finish, while Ashley Wilson placed eighth with a time of 56.93.

Joanna Ladas finished second in the 1650 freestyle, posting a time of 17:48.39, and Chelsea Doyle finished second in the 200 backstroke, with a school record time of 2:13.04.

Gabrielle Giambagno placed third in the 200 butterfly, after she touched in 2:19.19, and Aubree Guidon (2:28.78) and Melanie Rebechi (2:29.19) came in ninth and tenth, respectively.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Ladas, Wislon, Nicole DiGiacinto and Wisler finished third with a time of 3:40.82.  That established a new school record.

In men's action, Caleb Capozella posted a time of 1:53.81 in the 200 backstroke, which was good for second place, while Paul McGee placed ninth in 2:02.04.

Justin Kenyon posted a time of 17:17.48 in the 1650 freestyle, which was good for a seventh place finish, and Zack Hutton came in 11th with a time of 17:56.98.

In the 200 breaststroke Luke Granelli finished sixth in a time of 2:18.95, while Evan Hundley came in 12th in 2:23.47.

Dominic Grillo, Stephen Gill, Capozella and Brendan Reilly took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay, with a time of  3:16.88.

Susquehanna won the women's crown with 696 points, while USMMA took the men's title with 828 points.

CUA had six student-athletes earn All-Conference recognition, including first team selections Joanna Ladas and Julia Wisler. Second Team All-Conference honorees include Gabrielle Giambagno, Nicole DiGiacinto, Chelsea Doyle, and Caleb Capozella.
