Ladas adds second title, Cardinals remain in fourth

SCRANTON, Pa. – After two days of the Landmark Conference championship, CUA remains in fourth place on the men's and women's side.  Joanna Ladas was CUA's lone individual champion on Saturday, taking first in the 200 freestyle, while Caleb Capozella and the women's 800 freestyle relay team posted second place finishes.

In women's action, Ladas captured the 200 freestyle title in 1:55.95, which is a new school and Landmark Conference championship meet record.  It marked the second title for the sophomore in as many days after she took first in the 500 free on Friday.

Julia Wisler finished third in the 100 butterfly, breaking the school record with a time of 59.92 seconds, while Chelsea Hewitt earned nine points for the Cardinals after completing the 400 IM in 5:07.99.

Nicole DiGiacinto finished ninth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.01, with Chelsea Doyle (1:03.81) and Kristen Gunn (1:04.29) placing 11th and 12th, respectively.

Gabrielle Giambagno, Ladas, DiGiacinto and Wisler posted a second place finish in the 800 freestyle relay, finishing in 8:04.20.  That time established a new school record.

On the men's side, Capozella earned 17 points for the Cardinals with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke, which came in a time of 52.03, good for a new school record.  Luke Granelli earned 15 points for his fourth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.50).

Paul McGee picked up seven points with his finish in the 400 IM, which took 4:36.13, and Brendan Reilly finished the 200 freestyle in 1:50.07 to also total seven points.

McGee (57.22), Stephen Henderson (59.10) and Bernard Abbot (1:00.87) finished 10th, 12th, and 14th, respectively in the 100 backstroke.

In the relay events, Capozella , Granelli, Dominic Grillo, and Stephen Gill finished fourth in a time of 1:38.80 in the 200 yard medley.

The championships wrap up on Sunday, with action getting underway beginning at 10:30 a.m.
