CUA sweeps past Goucher in Landmark Conference opener

TOWSON, Md. – CUA swept Goucher on Saturday in the Landmark Conference opener.  The men took down the Gophers 151-111, while the women earned a 149-90 victory.  Caleb Capozella and Michelle Navaro won three events to lead CUA, while Luke Granelli and Julia Wisler added two wins apiece.

In the men's win, Capozella won the 100 backstroke in 54.71, the 200 backstroke in 1:59.80, and the 200 IM in 2:02.81.

Matt Wagner was first in the 100 free, finishing in 49.69.

Granelli took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.15, and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.33, while Dominic Grillo did the same in the 50 free, touching in 22.26.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Grillo, Stephen Gill, Stephen Mooers and Wagner won its event, finishing in 3:23.65.

On the women's side, Navaro won the 1000 free with a time of 11:29.82, the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.77, and the 100 free in 57.86.

Wisler claimed the top spot in the 50 free, finishing in 25.93 and in the 500 yard free, touching in 5:41.81.  Joanna Ladas was the first finisher in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 2:17.81.

Laura Keehn was first in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:16.13, while Laurie Wie won the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:31.80.

In the 200 breaststroke, Nicole Castellano's time of 2:47.87 was tops, while Keehn was second, with a time of 2:47.99.

Nicole Digiacinto came in second in the 100 backstroke, touching in 1:08.07, and Melanie Rebechi was second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:31.80.

In the relay events, CUA won the 200 yard medley, with Chelsea Doyle, Keehn, Wisler and Ladas finishing in a time of 2:00.21.

CUA is back in action on Saturday, November 3 when the Cardinals host Susquehanna in their first home meet of the season.  Start time is set for 3 p.m.
