Cardinals fall to Crusaders in conference home opener

WASHINGTON – CUA fell to Susquehanna on Saturday in the Cardinals conference home opener.  The men dropped a tough 132-130 decision to the Cruaders in a meet that came down to the very last relay, while the women were upended 141.5 to 114.5.

In men's action, Justin Kenyon won the 1000 free, with a time of 10:41.47, and Matt Wagner took first in the 200 free (1:51.22), and the 100 free (50.01).

Caleb Capozella captured first place in three events, including the 100 backstroke (54.58), the 200 backstroke (2:00.34), and the 100 butterfly (55.19).

Luke Granelli won the 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:03.77.

Dominic Grillo was another first place finisher for CUA, winning the 50 free in 21.87, and he also placed second in the 100 free (50.92).

The 200 yard medley team of Capozella, Granelli, Grillo and Wagner took first, with a time of 1:40.05.

On the women's side, Julia Wisler claimed first place in the 50 free, (25.73), and the 100 butterfly (1:03.95), and Michelle Navarro did the same in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 2:16.73.

Joanna Ladas won the 200 free in 2:00.72 and she also took second in the 1000 free, touching in 11:06.11.

Melanie Rebechi won the 400 IM in 5:14.69, with Abby Trozenski placing second (5:26.89).

In the 100 breaststroke, Laura Keehn finished second with a time of 1:15.98.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Navarro, Ladas, Rachel Berry and Wisler raced to a first place finish in 1:45.84.

The Cardinals return to action next Sunday, November 11 when they travel to face conference foe Marywood.  Start time is set for 1 p.m.
