WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men's & women's swimming teams captured a pair of victories over Goucher College on Saturday afternoon. The Catholic men took the top spot in every event to earn a 208-48 triumph and complete their third straight season undefeated in Landmark dual meets. The women captured the league victory with a final score of 188-73.
Hicks led a Cardinals' sweep of the 200-freestyle (1:51.74) and 100-backstroke (57.61). Freshman Kyle Kreuscher trailed Hicks for second place in the 200-freestyle (1:56.09) followed by classmate Matt Meade (2:01.02). Sophomore Chris Crafa (58.09) and Dan Lawrey (59.98) completed the 1-2-3 finish in the 100-backstroke.
Nguyen won the 100-butterfly when he touched in at 53.72 and later hit the wall in 24.09 second to take the top spot in the 50-butterfly. McCarthy earned his golds in the 50-backstroke (26.01) and the 400-individual medley (4:20.08).
James led the field in the 100-backstoke with a winning time of 1:03.25 and touched the wall first in 25.41 seconds during the 50-freestyle. Knight captured the 50-breastsroke in 33.54 seconds and later hit the wall first in the 100-breastroke (1:14.89).
Sophomore Emily Tighe led the way for a Catholic sweep in the 400-individual medley (5:08.85). Senior Brooke Krajewski followed in 5:18.85 and junior Emily Messina rounded out the 1-2-3 finish in 5:19.85.
The Cardinals head to Chesterfield, Va., for their midseason invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jacket Invitation is slated for December 1-2, beginning at 2 p.m., on Friday.
