WASHINGTON - Junior Sam Hicks has been selected as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week after helping The Catholic University of America men's swimming and diving team to an outstanding 187-107 triumph over NCAA Division I opponent Howard University.
Hicks won two individual events along with a relay, as the Catholic men secured a perfect 9-0 record for the 2017-18 season.
"Sam has been a great leader all season and he's is quick to give credit to his teammates," said head coach Paul Waas. "It is great to see him in the spotlight after a solid performance this past weekend."
Hailing from Miami Fla., Hicks led a Catholic sweep of the 200-freestyle with a winning time of 1:47.12 and guided a one-two finish in the 100-freestyle (48.72). He finished out the meet as a member of the first place 200-freestyle relay where he split his leg of the race in 22.28 seconds.
Up next, Catholic, the reigning league champions, head to the Landmark Conference Championships to compete for the 2017-18 title. The three-day conference meet is set to kick off Friday, February 16 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
