WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America swimming & diving rookie sensation Gregory McCarthy added to already crowded trophy room on Wednesday as the College Swimming & Diving Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA) selected him to its Scholar All-America team.
The Scholar All-America award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
McCarthy, who cracked the top-20 in the 400 individual medley at this year's NCAA Championships, was honored as the Landmark Conference Swimmer and Rookie of the Year.
At the league meet, he won the 200-individual medley (1:50.87), 400-individual medley (3:57.59) and 200-breaststroke (2:04.79) with three NCAA DIII B-Cut times.
McCarthy's three title-winning swims broke the Catholic University programs records while setting a new Landmark meet and conference record.
As an NCAA qualifier, McCarthy joins an elite list of 13 additional Catholic University men's swimming and diving team members that have qualified for the National Swimming & Diving Championships.
