WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Catholic University Cardinals Men's and Women's Swim Team opened their 2005-06 campaign with a two-day meet against Division I foes American University and George Washington University.  The format featured every event which will be competed at the CAC Championships in February, and enabled the Cardinals to swim events never before attempted.

The format allowed 2nd year head coach Paul VanLieshout to get a feel for what events the new members of the program could handle, and to expose the upperclassmen to events they normally would not compete in.  Said VanLieshout "Our kids competed very well against two pretty solid Division I programs.  We got a sense that those who have been working to their capacity swam at a much higher level at this time as opposed to last season.  We also were able to identify where deficiencies are in the mental and physical capabilities of some of our swimmers who did not swim to their uppermost level.  As we open the CAC season next week, we have a very good idea of what team members are able and willing to accomplish, both positively and negatively."

The Cardinals open their Capital Athletic Conference dual meet season on Friday November 4th with defending CAC Champion Mary Washington, with a start time of 5:00pm.
