Two Cardinals receive Academic All-District accolades

WASHINGTON – A pair of CUA seniors have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Thursday.  Jill Woerner and Katarina Owunna were rewarded for their dedication in the classroom and on the court with this latest honor.

This marks the second straight year in which Woerner received Academic All-District accolades.  The Providence native is a biomedical engineering major and maintains a 3.5 grade point average.

Woerner is highly involved in a number of activities off the court, as she is a member of Engineers Without Borders, Society of Women Engineers, and Phi Eta Sigma.  She is also a multi-year member of the Dean's List and Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.

On the court, Woerner leads CUA in scoring this season at 17.1 points per game.  She recently moved into third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,405 career points.  Woerner dropped in a career-high 29 points in a win over Eureka in December.

A multi-year All-Region and All-Conference selection, Woerner has scored in double figures in every game but one this season, and she has two games of double-digit rebounds.  She currently ranks in the top 10 in the Landmark Conference in scoring, field goal percentage, steals, and blocks.

Owunna earns her first Academic All-District nod as an accounting major.  A native of Pittsburgh, Owunna has an impressive 3.87 grade point average and is a multi-year member of the Dean's List and Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.  Owunna also works at an accounting firm in her spare time.

CUA's top post player, Owunna was an All-Conference selection last season, and this season is averaging 11.2 points and a team-best 8.6 rebounds.  She has hit for double figures 11 times, including seven straight games, and she has six games with double-digit boards.

Owunna ripped down a season-high 15 rebounds to go along with 17 points in a win over Scranton on January 19, and she began the season with a 21-point performance in a win vs. Randolph-Macon.
