CUA up to No. 13 in this week's Top 25 poll

WASHINGTON – The Cardinals are up to No. 13 in the Top 25 poll, released on Monday.  CUA won two more games last week to improve to 18-1 overall and 7-1 in the Landmark Conference.  The Cardinals have won their last four games.

A strong defensive performance pushed CUA past Goucher 56-38 on January 23 in Towson, Md., to give Head Coach Matt Donohue his 200th career win.  Jill Woerner knocked down 9 of 12 shots from the floor en route to 19 points, while Emily Grabiak moved into sixth on the school’s assist list, notching the 254th of her career.

On Saturday, CUA traveled to face Merchant Marine Academy and after forcing 26 turnovers, the Cardinals came away with a 72-49 victory.  Katarina Owunna finished with 14 points and Grabiak added 11.

CUA is also nationally ranked in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll, checking in at No. 17.

Individually, Grabiak is currently 4th in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.59) and 26th in assists per game (5.1).

As a team, CUA is 5th in won-loss percentage (94.7), 13th in field goal percentage defense (31.0), 31st in scoring defense (50.6), and 33rd in scoring margin (15.9).

On Wednesday, No. 13/17 CUA heads to Huntingdon, Pa. to face the Juniata Eagles.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

The Cardinals defeated Juniata earlier this month at home, and also beat the Eagles last season on the road on capture the 2012 Landmark Conference championship.
