CUA moves up to No. 17 in this week's Top 25 poll

WASHINGTON – Two conference wins last week have pushed CUA up to No. 17 in the Top 25 poll, announced on Monday.  The 16-1 Cardinals defeated Susquehanna on the road and Scranton at home last week to improve to 5-1 in the Landmark Conference.  The win over the Royals was CUA’s 13th straight at home, with eight of those coming this season.

CUA got its week going with a 75-49 win at Susquehanna on January 16, with the Cardinals defense forcing the Crusaders into 29.6 percent shooting and 19 turnovers.  Jill Woerner with 14 points and Katarina Owunna with 12 led the way offensively.

Three days later, CUA picked up an impressive 66-50 win over Scranton inside the DuFour Center.  In the second half, the Cardinals saw their 17-point lead cut to six before responding to put the game away.

Owunna pumped in 17 points this time around, to go along with a season-high 15 boards, while Woerner added 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks and Jenny McGann finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

CUA, which is ranked 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is currently alone in second place in the conference standings, with Juniata and Scranton tied for third.

The Cardinals pace the conference in scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage defense, rebounding margin, assists, and offensive rebounds.
