Cardinals Rally Back to Defeat Drew 81-69

WASHINGTON – In the last four contests, the Catholic University women's basketball team has led its opponent by the half and only trailed a mere 23 minutes overall, but on Saturday afternoon, the Drew University Rangers but the Cardinals to the test.

And six CUA student-athletes answered back with double-figure outputs to conquer DU 81-69 for Catholic to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference.

Of those double-figure performances, Josephine Migash (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Trinity) notched her second double-double of the year with a season-high points and a team-high 10 rebounds, along with Kristen Walheim (Malvern, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) recording a season-best 12 points on a perfect 4 of 4 finish from three-point range and a 4 of 5 finish from the field.

CUA's Melissa Errico (Harrington Park, N.J. / Old Tappan) and Michelle DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn. / Lauralton Hall) scored 11 points apiece, while Jayni Webster (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Country Day Sacred Heart) and Bridget Power (Newtown, Conn. / Newtown) rounded out the six with 10 points each.

Catholic took an early lead by the 16:51 on six straight points from Migash, until the Rangers tied the contest and took the lead with 15:03 remaining. By the half, Drew was ahead 41-37.

After the breather, CUA paced on a 13-10 run to capture the lead and never look back to eventually outscore the Rangers 44-28 in the half for a final score of 81-69.

By the numbers, Catholic shot 69 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 13), 46 percent from the field (32 of 69) and 40 percent from three-point range (8 of 20), while Drew finished the afternoon at 63 percent from the charity stripe (5 of 8), 47 percent from the field (26 of 56) and 44 percent from three-point range (12 of 27).

Hannah Miller guided the Rangers offense with a game-high 28 points, as Breana Wilson added 18 points to the squad.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 to host the University of Scranton at 2 p.m. in Washington, D.C., at the DuFour Athletic Center.
