Catholic Powers Past Gwynedd Mercy, 77-39

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's basketball team completed a perfect 2-0 record at the 2015 Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn Holiday Classic on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Gwynedd Mercy, 77-39.

Tournament MVP Bridget Power scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a 2-of-3 mark from 3-point range. Junior Nicole Tollevsen came off the bench for 10 points after scoring 11 just a day ago to earn All-Tournament Team honors.

The Cardinals made the most of its long-range shots as they knocked down 10-of-21 from distance.

In addition to its shooting prowess, CUA amped up the defensive effort, forcing 36 Gwynedd turnovers that led to 31 points for the Cards. 

Catholic posted 44 bench points in the contest with nearly half coming from Tollevsen and sophomore guard Payton Smith, who scored 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Cardinals return to Landmark play this weekend as they head to the Merchant Marine Academy for a post-New Year's showdown on Saturday, January 2 at 4 p.m.
