WASHINGTON - With a 20 point advantage, The Catholic University of America women's basketball team took down the Juniata Eagles (85-65) in the Wednesday night Landmark Conference matchup. With the win the Lady Cardinals remain undefeated at home while advancing their season record to 11-6 and 6-2 in conference play while Juniata drops to 6-11, 1-7.
Catholic took a 10-5 lead in the first four minutes of the contest after all five starters, seniors Kristen Walheim and Jayni Webster, juniors Michelle DeSantis and Melissa Errico and sophomore Payton Smith, found the basket.
The Lady Cards continued advancing their lead throughout the first 20 minutes. A three pointer from Smith in the final minute of the half gave Catholic a 47-28 lead heading into halftime.
Following the break Catholic continued sinking baskets, creating a 27-point margin in the third period, and ultimately achieving the conference 85-65 victory at the final buzzer.
Errico, Smith, Webster, and DeSantis each scored in the double digits for head coach Matt Donohue, while seven reserves totaled 25 points thought the match. Junior Bernadette Launi tallied nine points for the Lady Cards while fellow classmate Mackenzie Gardner notched a season-high six points.
The Cardinals earned 36 points off Eagles turnovers. Launi and DeSantis each made five steals as the team totaled 22. Webster, along with classmate Josephine Migash pulled down four rebounds apiece.
