Lady Cardinals Take Down Eagles, 76-56

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team outscored its Landmark Conference opponent Juniata College, 76-56, on the road Wednesday night.

The win advances the Cardinals to 15-8 overall while moving to 10-4 in the league as the Eagles drop to 8-16 in the 2015-16 season, 3-12 in the Landmark.

The Eagles took an early 11-5 lead in the first five minutes of play. The Lady Cards were able to close the gap by the end of the first period, putting themselves up 18-17.

Catholic came out hard in the second period outscoring Juniata 27-9. Senior Jayni Webster and junior Michelle DeSantis put up 10 points apiece in the second 10 minutes, bringing the Cards up 45-24 going into the halftime intermission.

The Cardinals opened the third period by sinking the first five points. The Eagles looked to come back from the 26 point deficit by going a nine point run, and scoring an additional seven points to outscore the Lady Cards 16-11 in the third period. Juniata's efforts would not be enough.

Catholic posted an additional 20 points in the fourth quarter, with senior Josephine Migash scoring 10, to pull ahead with a 76-56 victory.

Migash tallied a team-high 17 points during the midweek contest. DeSantis put up 14 points with four assists while classmate Melissa Errico scored 13 and pulled down a team-high 11 boards.

The Cardinals return home for back-to-back Landmark Conference games Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21. On Saturday Catholic will match up against the Royals of Scranton and will take on the Mariners of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday.
