WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team will open its season at home Tuesday, Nov. 15 versus St. Mary's College of Maryland. The game will be played in remembrance of Jamie Lynn Roberts as both teams celebrate their "One Bird Family" in her honor.
The "One Bird Family" initiative was started in honor of Jamie Lynn Roberts, who tragically lost her life in June of 2014, while biking across the country with a group affiliated with the Ulman Cancer fund. Roberts was taking part in the cross-country excursion to raise money for cancer research.
Jamie was a valued and impactful leader in the two proud athletic families. As an athlete at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and later as an assistant in the Catholic University Women's Basketball Program and Sports Information Department from 2011-2014, she made it her mission to positively impact the lives and well-being of all whom she came into contact with.
During her time with the Cardinals, Roberts, along with the rest of the Catholic University women's basketball coaching staff, was honored as the 2013 Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year.
Roberts graduated in 2011 from St. Mary's College of Maryland where she majored in economics and excelled as a three-sport athlete. As a Seahawk, she played lacrosse and was captain of the soccer and basketball teams. She was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) All-Academic Team and was named to the All-CAC Second Team for her outstanding contributions on the basketball court.
As the two institutions open their women's basketball season they invite you to celebrate their "One Bird Family" by wearing Jamie's favorite color, orange to Tuesday night's game, in her memory.
