Towson, Md. - Senior Michelle DeSantis of The Catholic University of America women's basketball team has been selected the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, after outstanding performance during the Cardinals' non-conference victory over Coast Guard where she captured her 1,000th career point.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that Michelle reached this milestone in her career," said Catholic head coach Matt Donohue. "To say that she puts in a lot of extra time outside of practice working on her game would be a massive understatement! She's an incredibly talented young lady who simply refuses to be outworked by anyone."
With her 11th point of the game, a free throw less than five minutes into the third period, DeSantis sunk her 1,000th career point. The Trumbull, Conn., native became Catholic's 20th member of the 1,000-point club and with 1,012 she currently sits 18th overall for total points in program history.
"She has been a tremendous leader for this program on and off the floor," said Donohue. "More importantly she has done a great job thus far this year of figuring out what this team needs from her on a given day so that our team can be successful."
The Cards remain undefeated at 4-0, as DeSantis also dished out a season-high seven assists and grabbed a team-high four steals. DeSantis went on to score a team-high 23-points, lifting the Cardinals to a 66-60 victory over Coast Guard.
The Cardinals will remain at home, hosting Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m., inside the Raymond A. DuFour Center.
