Towson, Md. - Jill Woerner '13, Emily Grabiak '14, and Michelle DeSantis '17 of The Catholic University of America women's basketball program were selected to the Landmark Conference All-Decade Team, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The 2016-17 season marks the 10th year anniversary for the Landmark Conference. To help celebrate, the Landmark featured individuals that have stood out over the past 10 years.
Woerner was a member of the Catholic University women's basketball team from 2010-2013. She was a three-time First Team All-Landmark selection (2011-2013) and was named the Player of the Year in 2013.
"Jill put Catholic University Women's Basketball on the map," said head coach Matt Donohue. She was one of the most athletic and versatile players the I have ever coached. Few players can play every position on the court. Even fewer can do it at the level Jill did!"
Woerner was a member of the Cardinals' back-to-back championship teams in 2012 and 2013. She finished her career with 1,544 points, second in program history and fourth in Landmark history. She graces the conference top-10 list with 713 rebounds, 241 steals and 148 blocks. Off the court, Woerner was a tree-time Academic Honor Roll selection and earned the conference's Senior Scholar Athlete award.
"From the very first moment she set foot on campus, she had an amazing impact on the fortunes of this program, as well as, the landscape of the Landmark Conference," explained Donohue. "Jill rewrote the record books here at Catholic en route to making history."
Grabiak was a member of Catholic's women's basketball team from 2011-2014. She earned All-Conference First Team honors in 2013 and 2014, and was named to the Second Team in 2012. Grabiak earned Player of the Year honors in 2014 and was a two-time conference champion (2012, 2013).
"Emily had an uncanny knack of figuring out what our program needed on a given day and even stronger ability to deliver what we needed," expressed Donohue. "Her name is littered throughout the CUA Women's Basketball Record Books and she was at the very heart of three championship teams!"
For her career, Grabiak finished with 1,118 points, 13th in program history. She is among the top-10 in Landmark history with 102 starts, 740 rebounds, 446 assists and 259 steals. Grabiak also holds the Landmark record for free throws made in a post-season game, 11 versus Scranton on Feb. 23, 2013.
DeSantis is a senior on the Catholic women's basketball team and is one of three current players to be selected to the All-Decade Team. She has garnered selections to the All-Landmark First Team honors twice (2015, 2016), and was a member of the 2015 Landmark Championship team.
"What Michelle has done for our program during the course of her four years has been simply amazing," said Donohue. "She is, without question, one of the toughest competitors and most driven athletes that I have ever coached. She has a tireless work ethic, is typically the first one in the gym and the last one to leave as well. It is this dedication to her sport and team that has made her the player that she is."
DeSantis has made the Academic Honor Roll in every eligible semester. As of February 13, 2017, DeSantis scored 1,327 points and has 357 rebounds and 213 steals. She is currently sixth on the Catholic leaderboard for most career points and eighth in the Landmark. With 396 career assists, DeSantis is now number four overall in conference history.
