TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Landmark Conference preseason poll released on Friday.
The Cardinals, who finished 16-9 a year ago and 7-7 in the Landmark Conference, received 46 points, just four behind second-place Elizabethtown. Scranton was picked as the preseason favorite with 70 points and seven first-place votes after claiming its third consecutive Landmark title last season.
Just eight points separated second through fourth place as Moravian came in fourth with 42 points and one first-place vote.
The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, December 1 at Drew. Their first home conference contest comes on Saturday, January 5 against Moravian.
Catholic and Scranton have combined to win the last seven conference championships with the Royals holding a slight edge with four. The Cardinals won three out of four from 2012-15, defeating Scranton twice in 2013 and 2015.
Catholic opens the season at home on Sunday against Stevens. Game time is at 3 p.m., at Franny Murray Court.
