McDaniel 73, Catholic 64 Jan 29, 2003

WESTMINSTER, MD - A layup by McDaniel's Erin White with 2:49 to go in the game restored a 10-point lead that Catholic could not overcome as the Green Terror defeated the Cardinals, 73-64, in non-league action Monday night.

Lindsay DiRomualdo's three-pointer with 1:22 left made it a 68-62 game but McDaniel used free-throws down the stretch to pull out the win. The freshman finished with 16 points and three steals, but turned the ball over seven times.

After Jen Piccolomini connected on a trey to give the Green Terror a 15-6 lead midway through the first half, the Cardinals (7-9) responded with an 11-1 run as Anne Maguire came off the bench and drained two of her game-high five three-pointers. The freshman scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from downtown and helped the Cardinals go 8-of-21 from beyond the arc for the game.

McDaniel would retake the lead and go into the half up 30-26.

Brooke Wiemer gave the Green Terror (13-3) a 46-36 lead with her only three-pointer of the night and looked to open up the lead, but once again Catholic rallied as Maguire was successful on consecutive treys and a bucket by Carol Schnepp helped to pull CUA within one point at 47-46. Maguire's next three-pointer with 10:57 to go on the next CUA possession gave the Cardinals their first lead since the early in the first half.

Despite being held without a field goal for the next eight minutes, Catholic took advantage of McDaniel's foul trouble and managed to stay close as CUA went 8-of-10 from the free throw line before White's layin restored the 10-point lead late in the game.

The Green Terror's Piccolomini led all scorers with 17 points while Jacqueline Pundt (11 points), Kelly Cramp (10 points) and Stephanie McPherson (10 points) all finished in double figures.

Schnepp chipped in 11 points and four caroms and freshman Laura Kaye nabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added four steals.

Catholic resumes action on Wednesday as they play at York College in CAC action at 6 p.m.
