Knights Edge Cardinals
ASTON, Pa.- CUA's women's basketball team dropped Friday evening's non-conference match to Neumann College 76-69. The team was within two points of the Knights for the majority of the game, but the Cardinals struggled on the glass and found themselves in foul trouble early. With the loss, CUA drops to 6-3 on the year.
Catholic University came out of the gates with a good deal of fire, starting things off with an 8-0 run. The Cards maintained the lead until the 8 minute mark of the first half, when a layup by Neumann put them up by two.
Although CUA held on to a two-point lead at haftime, but Neumann swiped it away just three minutes into the second half. Despite the a late Catholic comeback, the Knights were able to fend off the Cards and earned the 76-69 victory.
Leading the scoring attack of the Red and Black was sophomore forward Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) with a double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds). Acting as a tremendous spark on the defensive end was Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) also chipped in 11 points for the Cardinals.
CUA returns to action after the break against Tuffts University for game one of the WPI Invitational. Game time is set for 3 p.m., on December 30th.
