BETHLEHEM, Pa.- Despite a 53-point Cardinal rally in the second half, the CUA women's basketball team dropped Sunday afternoon's conference game to Moravian College by a score of 86-77. The Cardinals drop to 12-12 overall, 5-8 in the Landmark Conference.

After both teams struggled to find any offensive flow, a free throw by sophomore guard Christina Rogers (Monmouth Beach, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) tied the game at three just five minutes into the game. Moravian would seize control of the lead off of a lay-up by Emily Smith just seconds later, and the Red and Black ended the period trailing 36-24.

Moravian continued their offensive momentum by starting the second half with a 10-2 run. Although the Cards fought their way back to within 13 points off of a Jess Schiavoni (Winchester, Va./John Handley) lay-up at the 11:48 mark, the Greyhounds built their lead back up to 24 with 6:16 to go.

Not ready to throw in the towel just yet, CUA eventually pulled to within nine points in the closing minutes of the game. Fifty-three of the team's 77 points were scored in the final twenty minutes of play, but the Cards could not quite pull ahead before the final buzzer sounded.

Sophomore forward Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) led Catholic and all scorers with 27 points, 15 of which came in the final six minutes of the game. Peterson added six rebounds while Schiavoni and Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) each had 11 points. Sophomore guard Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) led the Cardinals with 11 assists to go with seven points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Ryann Gallagher (Dresher, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy) had a team high eight rebounds to go with four assists.

CUA returns to action for their final conference game of the season against Goucher on Saturday, February 21st. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
