Pair of conference road games awaits CUA this weekend

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's basketball team heads into the bulk of its Landmark Conference schedule this weekend as the Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to take on Juniata on Friday evening and Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.  CUA was last in action on Sunday when the Cardinals fell to Manhattanville 75-68 in the championship game of the Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament.

The Cardinals and Manhattanville were tied at 68 coming down the stretch, but CUA saw the Valiants score the final seven points to pull out the victory.  Despite the loss the Cardinals have had a strong start to their season, including a 67-46 road win over Goucher on December 4 in the conference opener.

The Cardinals have enjoyed playing away from home this season, posting a perfect 3-0 mark.  CUA has outscored its opponents by an average of 11 points in those three road contests and boast a +4.7 turnover margin during that time.

With a per-game average of 14.7, CUA currently leads the Landmark Conference and ranks 22nd nationally in steals.  The Cardinals have committed double-digit thefts in every game this season, but one, topping out with 23 in a win at Washington College.

CUA owns +3.8 rebound margin, which is tops in the Landmark Conference.  The Cardinals have pulled down more rebounds than their opponent in seven games, and enters this weekend with an average of 42.5 caroms per game.

The Eagles of Juniata come into this weekend sporting a mark of 7-5, following a 79-68 setback to No. 11 Mount Union on December 30th.  Juniata dropped its conference opener to Susquehanna 74-73 in overtime on December 4, and has since lost three of four games.  The Eagles' top scorer is Jen Hnatuck at 13.2 points per game, while Kate McDonald leads the team in rebounding at 8 per contest.  The Cardinals have won only two of the six meetings all-time vs. the Eagles.

Susquehanna has not played since December 30, when the Crusaders downed Berry by a score of 65-52 in Daytona Beach, Fla.  Susquehanna is 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark Conference, following a victory at Juniata in early December.  Two Crusaders average double figure points, led by Gina Palazzi at 13.4 points.  Erika Barron (11.2) is also in double digits, and she leads the team in three-pointers, with 29.  CUA is 6-4 all-time vs. Susquehanna.
