CUA opens postseason play on Wednesday at top-seeded Juniata

WASHINGTON - CUA heads to Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening to take on top-seeded Juniata in the Cardinals first-ever appearance in the Landmark Conference Tournament.  Behind a strong second half performance on Saturday the Cardinals downed Goucher 78-62 on Senior Night to earn their ninth league victory of the season.  Wednesday marks CUA's first postseason game since 2007.

In last weekend's win over Goucher, three Cardinals hit for double figures, led by freshman Liz Briones' career-high 23 points, while senior captain Kerri Confrey dished out 10 assists en route to setting the CUA single season record with 150 helpers.

CUA placed three players in double figures in the win over Goucher marking the fifth straight game in which three Cardinals scored at least ten points.  During those five games Jill Woerner (16.4), Katarina Owunna (14.6), and Liz Briones (11.6) are leading CUA in scoring.

The Cardinals have played well on the road this season, posting a mark of 8-2 away from home.  In those ten road games, CUA has held its opponents to 37 percent shooting, including 30 percent from 3-point range, and outrebounded teams by 3.7 per game.  The Cardinals also boast a +5.3 turnover margin on the road.

With its win over Susquehanna last weekend at home, Juniata wrapped up the top seed in this year's Landmark Conference Tournament with a league record of 12-2.  The Eagles' 19 wins this season are their second most in program history and include 10 victories at home.

Juniata placed three players in double figures in the 76-65 win over the Crusaders last weekend, including Jen Hnatuck (18), Paige Robertson (17) and Kate McDonald (11).  The Eagles sank 30 of 40 shots at the free throw line and outrebounded their opponent 48-30.

Four Juniata players average double digits points, led by Hnatuck at 12.3, while Hnatuck and McDonald lead the squad in rebounding at 8.2 per contest.

Juniata is 1-3 all-time in the Landmark Conference Tournament, appearing in the 2008 championship game vs. Scranton.
