TOWSON, Md. - With its inaugural spring season quickly approaching, the Catholic University women's golf team has been selected to finish second in the Landmark Conference according to the 2019 preseason poll, announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
The Cardinals garnered 47 points in the poll for second out of the eight competing teams. Leading the women's poll was Drew with 70 total points and seven of the eight first-place votes, followed by Catholic in second with one first-place vote. Scranton comes in third with 43 total points, followed by Marywood, Susquehanna, Goucher, Juniata, and Elizabethtown.
Catholic's spring season begins Sunday, March 24 with a tri-match against Marymount and Shenandoah at University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Md.
A youthful women's roster will look to build on a fall season in which the team finished in the top half of competing teams in three of the five competitions, including a first-place spot in the Gettysburg Tri-Match on September 14. Freshman Mary Colella led the way with the team's lowest round score of 81 and low round average of 90.1. Fellow freshmen Jordan Farrell and JoJo Parker as well as sophomore Tess Murphy followed with averages below 95 and combined for six top-10 finishes in the fall.
The women's Landmark Conference Championships are slated for April 27-28. Catholic will compete in Branchburg, N.J. at Fox Hollow Golf Club.
