WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team defeated Susquehanna 22-11 on Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove, Pa. to remain undefeated in Landmark action and sit atop the conference at 4-0.
The two squads battled in the first half before Catholic scored four straight goals to take an 8-5 lead with 5:23 left to play in the first period on goals from Madeline Wilson, Lindsay Brophy, Jenna Van Middelem, and Caroline DiBartolomeo.
With 19 seconds left in the first half, CUA took control of the game by scoring two goals in 12 seconds to push the lead to 10-6 at halftime. Anna Stumme and DiBartolomeo scored back-to-back goals for the Cardinals as the team never looked back in the battle for first place.
Coming out of the lockerroom, the Crusaders scored two straight goals to cut the lead to two before Clair Schmitzer, Stumme, and Wilson scored to take a 13-8 lead.
With 18:36 left to play, Susquehanna scored for a 13-9 margin, however the Cardinals scored nine of the final 11 goals to secure a 22-11 win over the Crusaders and take sole position atop the Landmark standings at 4-0.
Schmitzer and Alexis Bosilovic combined for 15 draw controls as the Cardinals edged the Crusaders 22-13 from the circles.
Defensively, Adair Douglas, Brophy, and Schmitzer each caused two turnovers as Susquehanna comitted 22 errors compared to CUA's 16.
Yasmeen Ajdari picked up 11 saves in the win, as the Cardinals held a 41-26 advantage in shots.
Catholic controlled the groundballs 16-13, and held the Crusaders to just 13-25 succefull clear attempts.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 16 for a non-conference matchup with Gettysburg at 4:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
