No. 12 Catholic Taken Down by No. 2 Cortland

WASHINGTON - On Monday, March 16, No. 12 (IWCLA/Lax Magazine) Catholic University was defeated by the No. 1 (Lax Magazine) / No. 2 (IWLCA) Cortland State, 19-12, for their first loss of the season and dropping their record to 3-1 on the season.

The Cardinals opened up the competition with the first goal of the afternoon just 12 seconds into the game when Alexis Bosilovic won the first draw and passed the ball to Nicolette Crisalli to send it in the back of the net.

The Red Dragons came back with four unanswered goals to go ahead 4-1 before the 15 minute mark and out-scoring the Cardinals 10-5 by the end of the half.

Nicolette Crisalli notched a hat-trick in the first half, while Laura Dunn and Madeline Wilson each had one before the first 30 minutes were up.

CUA's Lindsay Brophy scored the first goal of the second half but the Cardinals could not hold as the Red Dragons once again followed with four unanswered goals. Ana Brandenburg, Crisalli and Dunn answered with three consecutive goals, but it would not be enough for the Cards as the Red Dragons closed out the evening with a 19-12 lead.

Cortland out shot Catholic 34-24 and won 21 draw controls to CUA's 11.

Tricia Pehnke guarded the goal and made eight saves in the 60 minute competition.

The Cardinals head to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday, March 18 for 4:00 p.m. match up before returning home to open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. versus Elizabethtown College.
