WASHINGTON - No. 6 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team topped No. 19 St. Mary's of Maryland, 15-11, at Cardinal Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Nicolette Crisalli notched six goals including the gamewinner with just over four minutes to play as she buried the feed from senior Laura Dunn. Dunn scored four goals of her own while registering four assists.
Dunn scooped up a team-high for ground balls while her fellow senior Rachel Meyer caused three turnovers.
Crisalli started off the Catholic scoring with a goal in the fourth minute off a pass from Dunn. Dunn registered her second assist of the contest less than one minute later when classmate Clair Schmitzer ripped one into the cage.
Crisalli notched two more in the half while both Dunn and Schmitzer scored one to give the Cardinals a 6-4 advantage at halftime.
Sophomore Katie Sherry won the opening draw of the second half and sprinted down the field to send a pass to Crisalli who put the ball in the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the day.
The Seahawks rallied going on a 6-1 run to take a 10-8 lead with nine minutes remaining, but goals from Dunn and senior Alexis Bosilovic brought the game to 10 apiece as Dunn lifted the Cards ahead, 11-10. St. Mary's notched one more before Crisalli notched two in a row to go-ahead 13-11.
Senior Anna Stumme put a goal in the net and Dunn finished off the game with the Cardinals 15th goal of the midweek contest.
The Cardinals head to Cape Fear Acadamy in Wilmington, N.C., to take on Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, March 8.
