Cardinals Capture Victory Over Blue Jays on Senior Day

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse class of 2017 finished its regular season career undefeated (24-0) in the Landmark Conference as the team topped the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College 18-6 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Cardinals finish the regular season 11-4 overall and claim the Landmark Conference No. 1 seed with a 6-0 record.

Seven of Catholic's 13 seniors scored goals in the regular season finale with Elizabeth McCooey and Clair Schmitzer each collecting a hat trick. Laura Dunn scored a pair and Rachel Meyer scored her first career goal on a free position shot in the first half.

Fellow seniors Alexis Bosilovic, Emily Merkel and Jenna Van Middelem each put the ball in the cage to contribute to the Cardinals final score while classmate Allie Bond won 13 draw controls.

Catholic junior Nicolette Crisalli led the Cards with four goals, including game opening back-to-back scores in the first 3 minutes. Dunn scored back-to-back next followed by Schmitzer, Crisalli and Bosilovic, respectively, to take an early 7-0 lead.

Freshman Katie Bradbury scored next for Catholic followed by a behind-the-back score from Schmitzer and Meyer's free position goal. McCooey scored next with a pair of goals and sophomore Katie Sherry brought the first half score to 13-3.

Van Middelem found the back of the net 10 seconds after the break. Schmitzer, Crisalli, Merkel and McCooey each added an additional Cardinals' goal in the second half to bring the final score to 18-6.

Prior to the game, Catholic recognized Bond, Bosilovic, Dunn, Meyer McCooey, Merkel, Schmitzer and Van Middelem along with their classmates Miranda Altringer, Ana Brandenburg, Julia Collins, Erin Macchione and Anna Stumme for their four years of accomplishments.

The class of 2017 has compiled an overall record of 52-22 to date. The 13 women who entered the Cardinals' rookie class of 2014 together, have won three straight Landmark Conference Championship titles with three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament while reaching the NCAA Regional Finals in 2015 and 2016.

The Cardinals will host Drew University in semifinals of the Landmark Conference tournament on Wednesday, May, 3 at 4 p.m.
