WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team punched its 10th consecutive ticket to the Landmark Conference Championship Final with a 16-2 victory semifinal over Drew University on Wednesday afternoon.
Catholic senior Laura Dunn had a hand in eight of Catholic's 16 goals with four goals and four assists during the Landmark Conference semifinals. Junior Nicolette Crisalli recorded four goals and one assist while senior Ana Brandenburg registered a hat trick.
After an early Rangers' goal, the Cardinals scored nine unanswered to take a significant lead in the first half. Senior Clair Schmitzer started off Catholic's run followed by scores from Crisalli (three), Dunn (three), Brandenburg and senior Alexis Bosilovic.
Drew got their second goal on the board before Crisalli and senior Elizabeth McCooey each slotted the ball to put the Cardinals ahead 11-2 at the end of the first half.
After the break, Brandenburg scored back-to-back with assists from Dunn and Schmitzer to advance the Cardinals to 12-2. Sophomore Jessica Lyons scored next followed by McCooey and Dunn to close out the semifinal victory.
Catholic goalies, freshman Nanci Hernandez and sophomore Christina De Cesaris split time between the pipes and made nine total saves. Hernandez made the start with four saves while DeCesaris played the second half, allowing no goals with five saves.
On the hunt for their fourth straight title, ninth overall, The Cardinals will host the No. 2 seeded Scranton Royals in the Landmark Conference Championship Final game on Saturday, May 6. The Championship game is slated for 12 p.m.
