WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team has been selected No. 1 in the 2018 Landmark Conference Coaches' Poll.
The Cardinals were selected unanimously by their league opponents to earn 70 points in the poll. The University of Scranton grabbed the second-place spot with 54 points while Elizabethtown (47 points) and Drew (38 points) round out the top four.
Catholic, who has claimed nine conference titles, looks for its 10th Landmark plaque as the Cardinals return 21 players from the 2017 championship squad.
All-Region selections Nicolette Crisalli and Erin Dugan along with All-Landmark selection Jessica Lyons return to the field for Catholic. Head coach Meghan McDonogh added nine women to the Cardinals' roster to continue their quest for the NCAA Championship Title.
Catholic opens league play on the road versus Drew University on Saturday, March 24. The reigning Landmark Conference Champions host Scranton (March 12), Juniata (Apr. 14), Goucher (Apr. 18) and Moravian (Apr. 21). The Cardinals travel to Susquehanna on April 7 and close out their 2018 regular season slate at Elizabethtown on April 28.
The Landmark Conference semifinals are set for Wednesday, May 2, followed by the Championship on Saturday, May 5.
The Cardinals were tabbed No. 11 by US Lacrosse and No. 14 by in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) 2017 Preseason Poll.
Catholic is set to face six preseason nationally-ranked squads during the 2018 season. For the fourth-straight year, the Cardinals are set to open the season against No. 9/9 Salisbury University, on Saturday, February 24 for a 1 p.m. contest.
