WASHINGTON - No. 11 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team advanced its 2018 record to 3-1 with a 13-10 victory over Meredith College during their home opener on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Holly Regan tallied a career-high four goals and added an assist while Catholic's leading goal-scorer, senior Nicolette Crisalli notched four of her own. Junior Jessica Lyons tacked on three goals with an assist and won a game-high seven draw controls.
Regan started the event with Catholic's first goal in the opening four minutes. Crisalli followed with a free position goal before an unassisted goal from Regan brought the Cardinals to 3-0. The Avenging Angels scored a goal in the ninth minute before Lyons and Crisalli went back-to-back to gave the Cardinals a 5-1 advantage.
With 15 minutes to play in the first half, Meredith got three goals passed Catholic but Regan scored her third unassisted goal of the day and Crisalli tossed in another as the Cardinals took a 7-4 lead at the break.
The Angels rallied with six goals in the second half but it wouldn't be enough to down the Cardinals. Regan collected her fourth score of the day just three minutes into the half. Lyons notched two second-half goals while sophomore Wendy El, junior Megan Ellis and Crisalli each added to Catholic's 13-goal tally.
Sophomore Nanci Hernandez guarded the Catholic cage and made twelve saves two record her second win of the season.
Catholic remains at home as the Cardinals are set to host Rowan at 12 p.m., on Saturday, March 10.
