No. 21 Cardinals Down Rangers 19-5 in League-Opener

WASHINGTON - No. 21 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team opened Landmark Conference play with a 19-5 victory over Drew University on Saturday afternoon.

Four Cardinals contributed three goals to the final tally as junior Megan Ellis led Catholic with five points on three goals and two assists. Junior Erin Dugan and freshman Kate Behlen each scored their first career goals against the Rangers.

Sophomore Nanci Hernandez recorded the win after making six saves to leave the Drew scoreless in the first half.    

Senior Nicolette Crisalli opened the game with back-to-back scores and then added Catholic's fourth of the event. Rookie Anna Maupin scored the Cardinal's third goal of the day off a pass from junior Ellis. Later in the half, Maupin completed a free position opportunity and then slotted an unassisted goal in the second half to bring her gameday total to three.

The Cardinals fifth goal came unassisted from Ellis while junior Jessica Lyons capitalized on an eight-meter opportunity for the sixth. Ellis notched two more in the first half while Lyons completed two additional free position shots in the second half.

Freshman Sydney Hartman along with sophomores Julia Clementi, Holly Regan and Nicole DiFabio each scored first-half goals and Catholic took a 13-0 lead at the intermission.

Dugan opened the second half with her first career goal before Behlen scored Catholic's 18th goal of the afternoon with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Hartman registered the Cardinals' final score of the day with 1:01 left on the clock.

The No. 21 Cardinals return to the nation's capital to host No. 5 York on Tuesday, March 27 at 5 p.m.
