WASHINGTON - No. 22 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team recorded its second win of the week when they downed the University of Scranton 18-15 in a Landmark Conference matchup on Thursday afternoon.
Catholic junior Jessica Lyons guided the way for the Cardinals with five goals on seven shots, including 2-of-2 eight-meter conversions. Lyons added four draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers to the league victory. Sophomore Ally Criscuolo notched a career-high four goals as she completed 2-of-2 free position attempts and senior Nicolette Crisalli added three goals to the game.
The Royals made their way onto the scoreboard first and put up a good fight to take a 6-3 advantage over the reigning Landmark Champions in the opening 10 minutes. With 15:35 remaining in the half, Crisalli tossed the ball in the cage to send the Cardinals on a 3-goal run. Goals from junior Megan Ellis and Lyons followed.
Tied at six apiece, the league opponents went goal-for-goal in the final 13 minutes of the first half to reach a 10-9, Catholic advantage, at the halftime break.
In the opening two minutes of the second half, Lyons and sophomore Julia Clementi hit the net for back-to-back scores as the Cardinals began to pull away.
Up next, the Cardinals travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., to face league opponent Susquehanna University on Saturday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m.
