Lancaster, Pa. - After a dominating first half, No. 17 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 to No. 5 Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Holly Regan led the way for the Cardinals as she recorded three goals in and tacked on two assists while junior Megan Ellis and senior Nicolette Crisalli scored two goals apiece as. Catholic junior Erin Dugan won three draw controls and grabbed three groundballs.
Guarding the cage, sophomore Nanci Hernandez made 13 saves throughout the contest for the Cardinals.
Catholic freshman Sydney Hartman scored the game-opening goal when she took a pass from Regan in the third minute of play. Franklin & Marshall answered before the Cardinals scored back-to-back with goals from Regan and Ellis to take a 3-1 lead.
The Diplomats scored next but Cardinals maintained the advantage as Crisalli ripped two in a row into the cage (5-2). Franklin & Marshall rallied with two in a row before junior Jessica Lyons converted a shot to give Catholic a 6-4 advantage at the halftime break.
Franklin & Marshall came out on a four-goal run to take the lead before Regan found the back of the net for the Cardinals. The No. 5 Diplomats racked two more before freshman Anna Maupin and Ellis scored the final two goals of the game as the No. 17 Cardinals came up just one short as the clock expired.
The Cardinals return to Washington, D.C., to host Landmark Conference opponent Juniata College at noon on Saturday, April 14.
