WASHINGTON - Sophomores Nanci Hernandez and Holly Regan have been honored as the Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week after helping The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team to two league victories and clinching the No.1 seed in the conference tournament.
Hernandez garnered the Defensive Athlete of the Week accolade after she recorded 10 saves this week against league opponents, including nine against Moravian College on Saturday. The San Diego, Calif., native tacked on an assist versus Moravian and registered both of the Cardinals wins.
Regan collected 15 points over Landmark teams and was selected as the Offensive Athlete of the Week. A Stony Brook, N.Y., native, she racked up four goals while tossing out three assists against Goucher on Wednesday followed by an eight-point performance on five goals and three assists over Moravian on Saturday.
With the two victories, the Cardinals move up the IWLCA Coaches Poll to the No. 15 spot.
No. 15 Catholic is set to play its home finale in a matchup against No. 9 Mary Washington this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m.
