WASHINGTON — Just two days before The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team begins NCAA Regional play as one of just 16 teams remaining in the tournament, the Cardinals were honored with five selections to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach Association (IWLCA) All-Region Teams.
Senior Nicolette Crisalli and junior Erin Dugan were selected to the All-Chesapeake Region First Team while junior Jessica Lyons and sophomores Alyssa Bishop and Nanci Hernandez were tabbed to the Second Team.
Crisalli, who leads the Cardinals with 76 goals, earns her third-straight appointment to the all-region squads. She's added eight assists to hold Catholic's No. 2 spot in points (84). Hailing from Silver Spring, Md., Crisalli started all 18 games for the Cardinals this season and recorded a .875 shots on goal percentage. She's also caused 17 turnovers and grabbed 24 groundballs. Crisalli is a three-time First Team All-Landmark honoree.
Dugan garners All-Region First Team honors for the second-straight season. She is also a two-time All-Landmark Conference first-teamer as well as a second-teamer her rookie year. Dugan leads the Cardinals with 81 draw control victories, 40 caused turnovers and 48 groundballs. A dynamic player in transition, the Medford, N.J., native recorded two goals and two assists during the 2018 season and was selected as the league's Defensive Athlete of the Week after the Cardinals upset over then-No. 5 York.
Bishop, who earned her first Landmark Conference postseason recognition as a First Teamer, now picks up her first All-Region accolade. She sits behind Dugan in Catholic's No. 2 spot for groundballs (43). A fellow Medford, N.J., native, Bishop caused 19 turnovers and dished out one assist so far this season.
A Havertown, Pa., native, Lyons earns her first career All-Region honor as she has supplied the Cardinals with 56 points on 50 goals and six assists this season. With 77 draw control wins, Lyons is second on the team in draws. She has also caused 23 turnovers and scooped up 37 groundballs. Lyons is a two-time All-Landmark honoree as she garnered first team honors this season.
From San Diego, Calif., Hernandez led the Landmark Conference with a 10.50 goals against average and 49.1 save percentage to earn all-league second team honors. Hernandez, who boats 14 wins on the season, including two NCAA victories this year, has started 20 of Catholic's 21 games. She boasts 48 grounds balls, 14 caused turnovers and an assist.
The No. 14-ranked Cardinals now take on No. 8 York (Pa.) in the NCAA Regional Semifinal in Middlebury, Vt., on Saturday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m.
