Catholic's rally against
No. 14 St. Mary's falls short

WASHINGTON - Sophomore Hanna Bissell scored two goals early in the second half March 20 as Catholic scored three goals in a span of two minutes to start the rally from a 6-1 halftime deficit.

After Catholic (1-3, 0-3 CAC) tied the game at 7-7, the No. 14-ranked Seahawks (6-0, 2-0) scored the next three goals to take a 10-7 lead with 8:26 left.

The Cardinals answered with goals from freshman Colleen Finnerty and junior Kate Abbonizio with 1:03 left, but St. Mary's won the draw control and ran out the clock for a 10-9 victory.

Junior Kristi Ambrosetti scored a game-high four goals to lead Catholic, while Sue Welsh and Meg McFall scored three apiece for St. Mary's, which got off to the best start in the program's 19-year history. It was Catholic's second consecutive one-goal loss against a Top 20 opponent (Marymount was ranked No. 20).
