SAN ANTONIO- The #7 Catholic University women’s lacrosse team fell in overtime to the #2 Gettysburg College Bullets by a score of 14-12 in San Antonio, TX. With the loss, the Cards drop to 1-2 on the year.

The Bullets tallied two goals before junior Kelly Ryan converted off a pass from Meghan Brady. Gettysburg then scored the next four goals, taking an early 5-2 lead, but the Catholic defense caused five turnovers and held the Bullets to additional two goals for the remainder of the period. The trio of Lindsay Davenport, Laura Haring, and Mary Swarthout helped bring the Cards to within two goals by halftime.

Less than one minute into the second half, junior Caroline Taltavull tallied her only goal of the game off an assist from Haring. Five minutes later, Catholic took its first lead of the day off goals from Brady- the first of her career- Swarthout, and Haring. The teams would then trade goals until the final minute, when the Bullet attack came up with the final two draw controls and allowed post two goals and tie the game 12-12. Gettysburg sealed the 14-12 win with back-to-back goals in the overtime period.

Senior captain and goaltender Melissa Brashear finished with a personal best of 18 saves and four ground balls, as the Cardinal defense held the Bullet attack scoreless for the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Ryan (3G/1A), Buonpastore (2G/2A), and Haring (1G/3A) led all Catholic scorers with four points each.  Three other CUA players tallied multiple points in the loss, as eight different players contributed at least one point in the contest.  Swarthout and Miller led the team with four draw controls each, and Taltavull snagged 6 groundballs in the loss.

The #7 Cardinals will be back on the field this Saturday March 20 at 12:00pm against Stevenson University in the home opener of the 2010 season.
