Catholic Set to Join Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Sean Sullivan has announced that the Cardinals' newly-minted men's and women's rowing programs will compete as part of the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC).

The MARC is currently made up of 12 different schools from across the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond including: Adrian, Bryn Mawr, Cabrini, Franklin & Marshall, Johnson & Wales, Marietta, North Park, Ohio Wesleyan, St. Mary's (Md.), Stockton and Washington College.

"We are tremendously excited and proud to join such an impressive conference that boasts an array of fine schools," said Sullivan. "I would like to thank MARC Commissioner Carol Bower and the conference coaches for the trust they have afforded us as a new program and we are committed to being an excellent partner in this league."

The women's side of the conference boasts all 12 programs competing while the Catholic men now become the seventh member along with Adrian, Franklin & Marshall, Marietta, St. Mary's (Md.), Stockton and Washington College.

"Being accepted into the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference provides a great opportunity for both the men and women's programs. Not only will we see formidable competition from member schools, but we also gain a supportive network in the larger rowing community," said head men's and women's rowing coach Katie O'Driscoll. "We've found a really inviting home in the MARC."

The MARC was formed in 2009 and has expanded in three of the past four years.

"The fall cannot get here fast enough," remarked O'Drsicoll. "We are fortunate to find a group of student-athletes who are just as thrilled as we are to be starting these programs. The young men and women we have joining us in the fall are really motivated by the immensity of that undertaking and look forward to working with them."
