WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team has been selected No. 3 in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Cardinals trail The University of Scranton in the top spot and Moravian in the No. 2 seat.
The Cardinals return 18 members of their 2016 squad to the field including junior midfielder Taylor Pisk who received All-Region and All-Landmark recognition in 2016. All-Landmark defender, senior Kate Thompson also makes her way back to the pitch while head coach J.P. Sousa adds nine rookies to the roster.
Catholic will kick off the 2017 season at Virginia Wesleyan in a two-game tournament that includes Christopher Newport, before hosting the DC Classic on September 9 and 10.
Catholic's nonconference slate features a three-game homestand with DC Classic games against Guilford and Randolph-Macon in addition to hosting Stevenson on Wednesday, September 13. Additional home non-league games include St. Mary's (Md.) (9/27), Lynchburg (10/3) and McDaniel (10/18). The Cardinals will also travel to Salisbury (9/16).
The Cardinals open Landmark play at home on Saturday, September 23 against Susquehanna. The Cards will also host Goucher (10/11), Moravian (10/14) and Drew (10/21) while traveling to face Juniata (9/30), Elizabethtown (10/7) and Scranton (10/28) on the road.
The Landmark playoffs begin on Wednesday, November 7 with the semifinal round before the title game on Saturday, November 4.
