CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Catholic University women's soccer team earned its second-straight win with an offensive outburst Sunday afternoon to top DeSales, 5-0.
Junior forward Elizabeth Johnson was crucial in the Cardinals' success against the Bulldogs. The 2017 team scoring leader had two goals and two assists in her 64 minutes of play.
Johnson got the scoring started in the 30th minute when her shot deflected into the net to give the Cards a one goal lead that would stand at the end of the first half.
Johnson and fellow junior forward Grace Boras then paired up in the second half to score a couple of quick goals to extend the advantage. Johnson found Boras in the box and her first time shot beat the keeper in the 66th minute.
Just twenty-seven seconds later, the teammates repeated the process, and Boras had her second goal of the afternoon to put Catholic up 3-0.
As a team, Catholic outshot DeSales 16-10, and took five corners.
Goalkeeper Nina Fernandez earned her second straight clean sheet victory, making six saves in the process.
The Cardinals return home for a match against Hood College on Wednesday, September 5th at 4 p.m.
