TOWSON, MD. - Two late goals capped a 2-1 comeback victory in overtime for the Catholic University women's soccer team over the Goucher Gophers on Wednesday evening.
Junior forward Grace Boras scored her sixth goal of the season with just five minutes to play in regulation, and the Cardinals scored on an own goal in the overtime period for another Landmark victory.
Catholic (7-3-3, 2-1-1 LC) controlled a good amount of possession during the first half of play, outshooting the Gophers 8-3. Goucher's lone shot on goal, however, found the back of the net in the 13th minute of play to go up 1-0.
The Gophers (4-5-3, 0-2-2 LC) held the goal advantage for most of the second half until the 85th minute equalizer from Boras. Junior Bella Bertoncini crossed the ball into the box and second assist of the season when Boras put it away to level the match at 1-1 at the end of regulation.
In the overtime period, the Cardinals stayed on the front foot, taking four shots to Goucher's zero. A cross from Bertoncini was deflected into the net to give Catholic the 2-1 win in the 97th minute.
Junior forward Elizabeth Johnson led the Cardinals with eight shots on goal, five of which were on target. Sophomore Krista Boretti also took five shots on goal. As a team, Catholic outshot Goucher 22-6 and led in corner kicks 8-1.
A home Landmark Conference matchup is up next for the Cardinals, on Saturday, October 13 against Juniata at 4 p.m.
