Cardinals Fall to Mary Washington on the Road, 2-0

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Catholic University women's soccer lost on the road to Mary Washington Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 defeat. The Eagles scored a goal in each half to double up the Cardinals. 

Mary Washington (3-4) took an early lead with an 18th minute goal to go up 1-0. 

Catholic (3-3-2) was outshot 16-10 in the contest, but grew into the match in the second half, forcing the Eagles' goalkeeper to make five saves.

Senior midfielder Sarah Brush led the team with four shots, two of which were on goal. Maggie Moorcones matched with two shots on target as well.

The Cardinals pressed on in the second half in search of an equalizer, but Mary Washington put the game away with a second goal in the 89th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Nina Fernandez had four saves in the match.

The Cardinals host St. Mary's (Md.) at Carlini Field for their next match on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
