ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern's Zoe Galvin scored the game's only goal in the 25th minute before the Eagles held off a late rally by the Catholic University women's soccer team en route to a 1-0 victory Tuesday at Olson Field.
Playing without starter Nina Fernandez in goal, the Cardinals (4-5-2) suffered their second-straight one-goal loss after falling at Scranton on Saturday in their Landmark Conference opener, 1-0.
Freshman Molly Krzywicki made her first career start in goal, stopping three shots before giving way to sophomore Marykate Stack for the final 45 minutes. Stack made one save in her first appearance of the season and third of her career.
After Catholic turned the Eagles (5-4-0) on their first seven shots, Galvin gathered the ball and turned at the top of the box before firing a shot into the upper left corner. It was Galvin's team-leading fourth goal and 11th point of the season.
Eastern led 1-0 at the break after outshooting the Cardinals, 9-4, and holding a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Catholic reversed the shot margin in the second half, outshooting the Eagles by the same 9-4 margin, but could not get the equalizer as Kerry Phillips saved all three Cardinal shots on goal.
Phillips and Grace Schreckengast combined on the shutout for Eastern, the team's third in five wins this season.
Highlighted by Krzywicki's first career appearance, all 22 available players saw action for Catholic.
The Cardinals begin a three-game homestand on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they host a Landmark Conference contest against Drew at Carlini Field beginning at 4 p.m.
